Well, nobody's used this comm since November, but I figured the cohost folks would wanna see this?

I know the full degree to which Cohost enabled CSS *crimes* isn't quite possible on any other social media. However, it seems like there is a small community of people on here who are wringing the site's inline CSS capabilities for all of their worth. They're not shitposting with it the way the #css-crimes scene on Cohost, was, though.

Rather, it seems like getting fancy with in-post CSS seems to be most popular with the roleplay community on here. Some of the roleplayers get very #aesthetic with how they format their lists of RP accounts, book-keeping for different threads across the website, et cetera. Not *all* of them are doing this, but enough are that it seems noteworthy.

I found a community, [community profile] chriscodes, that's got some example codes to peruse. This post (which is technically a follow-up on this post) and this post strike me especially in terms of the visual effect. And then this post very much reminds me in spirit of a CSS Crime, in terms of just being creating an effect for literally no reason than Because You Can.

I am wondering what the people who used to post in the CSS Crimes tag on Cohost are doing now... it's one of the little things I miss seeing regularly.

I kind of miss how easy it was to see people talking about media, technology, history, etc that I'd never heard about before on Cohost... despite Cohost having some structural similarities to Tumblr, I just don't get that experience there.

I'm pretty bummed out by recent events (to put it mildly), and I imagine a lot of other people here are too. Anyone wanna share stuff that brings them joy, or at the very least positive stimulation? Books you're reading, hobbies you've gotten into, etc.

I had been reading Who Owns this Sentence by David Bellos and Alexandre Montagu, which is very good, but had to take a break because it was just making me depressed thinking about how we're going to get out of the enclosure of the cultural commons on top of... everything else. I've had a bit of fun with a short free fangame RPG on Itch.io, made by a user going by Atena. And I'd like to share an old middle-school favorite website, "Dog Coat Colour Genetics" by an artist named Jess, as well as the even bigger and older "MessyBeast" website run by Sarah Hartwell, which is an especially thorough as a resource on cat color genetics, but has many other interesting alleyways to explore.

unsure if these go out to everyone all at once , or roll out in waves , but just in case anyone miss : cohost data export is live .
this export contain :
  • asks which send out to other users , anonymous ones as well
  • notes which leave on other user profiles
  • all posts from each page - which include timestamps , but come wrap in json that need strip to post elsewhere
  • personal comments from all posts - not full threads
  • personal additions to reblog shares - not full threads
  • profile information of all followers from each page
  • profile information of everyone who personally block from pages
  • as promise , " find your friends " files which include contact information of everyone in following list - not followers
hopefully this is helpful if wonder what data export would contain ( if not able to access yet ) , or if just miss email . :)
